Acid mine drainage and waste water treatment plants represent the most important habitats where sulfidogenes are exposed to high metal concentrations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"h.671002130e7f1c9e_56\" class=\"yaqOZd\">\n<div class=\"mYVXT\">\n<div class=\"LS81yb VICjCf\" tabindex=\"-1\">\n<div class=\"hJDwNd-AhqUyc-II5mzb purZT-AhqUyc-II5mzb pSzOP-AhqUyc-qWD73c JNdkSc\">\n<div class=\"JNdkSc-SmKAyb\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"oKdM2c Kzv0Me\">\n<div id=\"h.671002130e7f1c9e_59\" class=\"hJDwNd-AhqUyc-II5mzb pSzOP-AhqUyc-qWD73c jXK9ad D2fZ2 OjCsFc wHaque GNzUNc\">\n<div class=\"jXK9ad-SmKAyb\">\n<div class=\"tyJCtd mGzaTb baZpAe\">\n<p class=\"CDt4Ke zfr3Q\" dir=\"ltr\">We isolated SRP pure culture that could tolerate high copper concentrations (up to 15 g\/l) in the growth medium from various mining sites and wastewater of metal processing plants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"CDt4Ke zfr3Q\" dir=\"ltr\">Several SRB genomes, including <em>Deltaproteobacteria<\/em>, <em>Firmicutes<\/em>, and one <em>Archaea<\/em>, have been sequenced by present. The analysis of the genomes revealed that all <em>Bacteria<\/em> encode putative proteins with conserved domains (phosphorylation domain and nucleotide binding domain) that can be copper- and other metal-transporting P-type ATPases. CopA and CopB ATPases related to those of <em>Enterococcus hirae<\/em> have been confirmed only for a hyperthermophylic archaeon <em>Archaeoglobus fulgidus<\/em>. We showed that <em>pcoA<\/em>-related sequences could be amplified from the copper-tolerant SRP isolates<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"hJDwNd-AhqUyc-II5mzb purZT-AhqUyc-II5mzb pSzOP-AhqUyc-qWD73c JNdkSc\">\n<div class=\"JNdkSc-SmKAyb\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"oKdM2c Kzv0Me\">\n<div id=\"h.671002130e7f1c9e_62\" class=\"hJDwNd-AhqUyc-II5mzb pSzOP-AhqUyc-qWD73c jXK9ad D2fZ2 OjCsFc wHaque GNzUNc\">\n<div class=\"jXK9ad-SmKAyb\">\n<div class=\"tyJCtd mGzaTb baZpAe\">\n<p class=\"CDt4Ke zfr3Q\" dir=\"ltr\">Phylogenetic position of copper-tolerant isolates. <em>Methanobacterium formicicum<\/em> was used as the outgroup reference. The scale represents an estimated 10% sequence divergence.
